Part 1: Information Design
Focused on planning the design and answered the
question : “What is this product ?”
Part 2: Interaction Design
Focuses on the mechanics of the design and answers
the question : “How should it work ?
What is Interactive Design?
Based on Wikipedia Interactive Design is The practice of designing interactive digital products, environments, systems, and services. Like many other design fields interaction design also has an interest in form but its main focus is on behavior.Normally we used STORYBOARD to shows navigation pathways, media inclusions and controls from information design.
Three basic elements in interaction design:
1. Organization – How the information will beorganized on the courseware ?
2. Navigation – How people will find their way around
your courseware?
3. Interactivity – What controls you give your users to
work with
Critical tasks of interaction design.
- Create a guidance system to orient users.
- Design the navigation system.
- Define what happens on each screen.
- Design the controls for interaction.
- Determine how much interaction is to be included
Creating good navigation is the most important task a designer has to accomplish in the design process. Navigation is the pathway people take to navigate through the system. It must be well constructed, easy to use and intuitive. Poor navigation does not help users and often, your site can prove to be less accessible than others.
Good navigation design will:
- path between any two points.
- Minimise travel - create the simplest and shortest
- Minimise depth - create a hierarchy with the fewest possible levels.
- Minimise redundancy - avoid creating multiple paths to the same place from the same screen.
